Food Moods

I was just thinking the other day of how we relate food to our moods. When we're happy, we eat. When we're sad, we eat...or eat to be happy. So what foods to what moods?

Personally, I think that (warm) waffle with ice-cream is usually what I crave for when I'm down. I think Shokudo's waffle isn't too bad. Unfortunately, Gelare has shut down. Think waffles also bring back childhood memories of A&W. Fresh Belgian waffles in Belgium are great.

Happy? I guess maybe something crispy like chips or pocky? Ice-cream (without the waffle) works too, but maybe the sorbet variety for that extra breezy feel. (I love ice-cream for anything)

When I'm angry? Hmm, not really sure yet, but I think any good fulfilling meal helps.

  1. Do people really think of eating when they're angry? I thought that would be the last thing on their minds. =)

  2. I won't say "think of eating", but eating might help to make one less angry. Maybe because the blood rushes to the stomach. But some people do crave food...probably some signal the brain triggers, just like why we sometimes "feel like" eating some particular food.

However, different people will have different ways of cooling off. Eating is just one way.

  3. When i'm angry i think i'd feel like venting the anger in some tangible ways e.g. sweating it out in a body combat class to punch/kick away all the frustrations. or imagine i'm punching someone who has pissed me off.

i'm not sure if i eat in response to mood swings but definitely what i eat seem to correspond to how i feel sometimes.

  4. hmm...well, for me, sometimes fencing helps, but I've been skipping classes lately. :P
However, I think food works better.

Good thing I'm not one who gets angry easily, or bears anger for long (unless it's super serious), or else I'll be super fat!
