What to write?

My friend's recent success in playwriting (plus all the watching) has stirred in me my interest to write again. Not that I wrote anything much previously, except maybe poetry and some brief storylines.

But what to write? A murder mystery? A horror flick? It's tough coming up with a good story to 1) keep audience in suspense, and 2) have a good twist. I realise I have abstract ideas that kind of find it hard to become a full story. And I'm quite bad at "conversations". After all, plays are about dialogues. *sigh* Well, that's for plays.

Musicals? Maybe I should go back to some of those storylines that I came up with before (and lying cold) and try to work something out from there?

Well, as I mentioned before, not all plays need to have suspense or a twist. Some just explore certain issues very well, without the need for a twist. (Example "Bringer of Light" and your favourite, "The Devil's Aftershave")

Yes, exactly! Plays are all about dialogue.

Anyway, time to start picking up the pen! You'll never start if you never start.

Hope to be able to support your play in the Top 40 next year. =)

  3. Oh I see. Yeah, those definitely need a twist.

Hmmm, I'm not sure how well a mystery/horror genre play would work in a 10-minute environment. I don't remember seeing any of such genres at this year's competition.

However, I really look forward to seeing you attempt one! =)
