I've always been frustrated on why I can never seem to write a happy & upbeat song. I've tried and they sound horrendous. It just came to mind that maybe, I'm better with melodies rather than rhythm.
Just like when I hear a tune, I can usually tinkle out the main melody on the piano (a.k.a the right hand) but can never seem to come up with an accompanying chord progression and rhythm base. Also, a friend once commented my rhythm is a bit irregular especially when I write songs starting with melody first.
I guess, for happy songs, rhythm takes precedence over melody (not that melody is not important).
